Councillors Call for Action on Former Venue Site...

Inspector Maria Martin of Eaton Road Police Station has been advised that over the last few weeks syringes have had to be removed from the site of the former Venue Nightclub, Green Lane. Liberal Party Councillors Steve Radford, Hazel Williams and Chris Lenton have urged Building Surveyors to demolish the site as it is unsafe. Police Sources have confirmed they have frequently needed to intervene to remove youths from the site

Inspector Martin has reassured community leaders that there has been significant anti-drugs police work undertaken in the Green Lane vicinity.

Calls for firmer council action to CPO this site will undoubtably be raised at the Area Committee on Monday 3rd Nov, 6.30 at the Tuebrook Hope Centre, rear of St Johns Church, Green Lane.

LIBERALS BACK QUAKERS and QUIGGINS vs CITY COUNCIL and GROVENOR DEVELOPMENT...

The Liberal Party are supporting the Objections by the Society of Friends and Quiggins against the CPO which will force them out of Freeholds.

This will be the third enforced moved for the Quakers, "Its just not fair to keep pushing them around. They are esentially a voluntary faith group who have contributed, out of all proportion to their numbers, to the life of the City" commented Cllr Steve Radford

In the case of Quiggins this is very much Liverpool's answer to London's Camden Market and Manchester's Affleck's Palace. It is the ideal environment for alternative lifestyle business, to force them out would be an act of cultural and economic vandalism. Once again these policies are being forced through without any debate at full council by the Lib Dem ruling Cabal.

Tuebrook - Planning Applications...

The area Committee on 3rd November will be considering recent applications including:-

Former Laundry Gloucester Road North/September Road, the application for 16 terraced homes with two flats above a parking bay has been welcomed by local Councillors,. The previous apllication for a more intense development of flats was rejected as flats are already in excess supply.

An application for 8 flats at the rear of Sutton Street and on two plots in Brainerd Street is being opposed as the market for flats has proven unstainable, Liberal Party Councillors are urging the small plots be designated for similar terraced homes

A further telecoms mast is being sought at the junction of Queens Drive and Millbank. The Liberal Party fear insufficient effort is being taken to encourage operators to share the current large number of mast sites so far.

All Tuebrook, Stoneycroft, Old Swan, Kensington, Newhsam Park and Fairfield residents are encouraged to attend the meeting which starts at 6.30, in the former Brockman Hall, at the rear of St Johns Church, Tuebrook.

Social Services Clients to be given Advocacy Guidance within appeal process...

At the Social Care and Health Committee on 23rd October Cllr Steve Radford asked that all social services clients being assessed as part of the Community Care Service Provision assessment be given standard documentation whereby their appeal rights are spelled out with the details of advocacy services and groups who can assist them

"We have to accept, however well trained and well intended our own staff are, many clients will wish to question their assessment. Just as we recommend employees use the trade union representatives we should positively encourage social services clients utilise advocates from the user/voluntary groups. This will at the end of the day improve consistency and equity". Members agreed with Cllr Radford's proposal and agreed it ibe implemented straight away.

Bankfield Sandstone Wall left in Dangerous State for 12 Weeks...

At the Culture and Tourism Committee, Cllr Steve Radford protested that the Sandstone Wall on Bankfield Road had been left in a dangerous state with slabs left blocking the pavement, despite council officers having confirmed an order for repair had been placed over 7 weeks ago.

Cllr Warren Bradley promised there would be an immediate inspection, he was then rebuked "we don't need an inspection we need the site repaired, its been inspected already, I visited the site last Sunday and it is still a danger" hit back Steve Radford. "If your officers can't rectify a major Heath and Safety hazard don't send then on a visit sack them.

The following day on Radio Merseyside, Cllr Radford said he would act as a witness for any resident injured as a result of this negligence.

Parks Vision Document Fails to Involve Community Ownership or Improve Security...

At the Fairfield and Stoneycroft Area Committee,(Monday 20th Oct) Liberal Party Councillors Steve Radford and Hazel Williams pulled apart the councils latest press gimmick policy document "Vision for Parks"

Cllr Steve Radford said it failed to give any meaningful approach to enabling communities to take ownership of their Parks, he ridiculed Lib Dem Members for breaking their pledge to create community based trusts with local people in control. He then went onto catalogue the systematic failure of officers to improve security in Larkhill Park until after they wasted thousands on improvements which were then vandalised overnight.

Cllr Hazel Williams said she and the Friends of Newsham Park were exasperated at the number of broken pledges to improve Newsham ark which came to naught., She said local people were fed up of all the monies going to sefton Park time and time again

Lastly Hazel and Steve formally moved the report be recorded as a disappointment and that proposals be brought back to prevent the consumption of alcohol in local parks, enable community ownership and improve security.

Although all the local Lib Dem councillors agreed with their critisism when it came to the vote the Lib Dems voted to note the report and do effectively nothing.

Lib Dems flog off Allotments to aid Builders...

The Lib Dem Councillors at the Culture and Tourism Committee , Monday 20th October ignored an impassioned appeal by Liberal Party Councilor Steve Radford not to sell part of the Marlborough Road Allotments, but wait until the Planning Process had considered all the traffic and leisure implications.

He was supported by the two Labour Councillors, however the Lib Dems ignored their own Clubmoor Councillor and steam rolled the sale.

Tuebrook Liberal Party Councillors are urging all local residents attend the next area committee on Monday 3rd November, 6.30 at the Tuebrook Hope Centre, (Former Brockman Hall), Snaefel Avenue to object to another 81 houses being built. The feeder road leading right onto the worst accident spot in Tuebrook, ie the junction of Marlborough Road
and Ellerslie Road, ", its a tragedy in the waiting" commented Steve Radford.

Stoneycroft Residents Appeal Rejected...

(at Planning Committe - Tuesday 21st October)
The former Sunny Oak children's home, Hughenden Road, Stoneycroft, has been sold to a private builder and planning permission given to convert it into 5 separate flats.

Despite appeals from Local Residents at two hearings and supported by their Liberal Councilors, the Lib Dem controlled planning committee agreed to the extension and conversions.

The former lawn at Sunny oak will now be converted into a 5 car parking lot. This is despite all the evidence that there is already an excess of multi-occupancy housing, despite the fact their was no shortage of purchasers at auction who wanted the site as a family home, the Lib Dem Councillors gave the application approval ignoring all local opinion.

Liverpool City Council Calls for Pension Rights for unmarried couples...

At the City Council on 15th October the following Liberal Party Resolution was passed unanimously:-

"This city council welcomes the introduction of a civic partnership register in neighbouring Sefton.

This council requests the Executive Member for Resources to initiate discussions with our partner councils on the Merseyside Superannuation Fund to ensure single employees may nominate another dependent to receive the entitlement of a married partner".

The motion was sponsored by Liberal Party Councillors Steve Radford, Hazel Williams and Chris Lenton.

Speaking to the motion, Liberal Party Cllr Steve Radford ,said he wanted the councils pension funds to provide pension protection to non -married partners, irrespective whether the relationship was a gay couple, lesbian or unmarried heterosexuals, he said that major employers like BT and Marconi had this sort of provision for decades whilst councils and other public sector pension funds was living in a time trap.

Cllr Steve Radford said that The Liberal Party had raised this issue nationally in the current DTI consultation, but at a local level he wanted councils to take steps over and beyond any legislation if need be He said he was pleased legislation may assist gay and lesbian couples, but he felt that there should be equal rights for heterosexual unmarried couples who were left out of the proposals.
This issue is about human need not concepts of family which were over idealistic and dated in the modern world.

80,000 Metric Ton Nightmare for Blackhills destruction...

Planners have now admitted that the levelling of the railway embankment, known as the Black Hills , will invole the removal of 80,000 metric tons of rubble. This will be done within a 4 month period, with 22 lorry collections each day over a 10 hour period, Monday to Friday.

"This will be a nightmare with HGV traffic blcoking the Townsend Lane route into the city and Anfield where it narrows into a single lane during both peak periods each day. Even worse residents in the American Streets and Marlborough Road will be disturbed by excavations on Saturdays."

"Lastly the planners want to add additional residential traffic flow from the new estate onto Marlborough Road , despite this area being one of the highest 7 areas of the city for traffic accidents, according to the councils own figures. Of course joined up thinking is only a limp slogan for this council - bless them " says Liberal Party objector Steve Radford.

Planning Battle Looms on Tuebrook's "Black Hills"...

The land between the railway line and the Marlborough Allotments is locally known as the Black Hills and was a decade ago notorious for clashes between gangs in Tuebrook and gangs from Anfield. Today a different sort of battle is looming! The site had been the subject of a UDP Inspectors hearing, "We have fought tooth and nail to prevent any of the envisaged 20,000 tons of rubble which will need to removed, to level the site, being driven through the adjoining streets of Tuerbook. Many of our roadways are in a bad state of repair let alone put up with this sort of traffic loads. The innspector assured us that no traffic would come southbound from the site. We fear the councils position has been compromised by the sale negotiations. We fear the council is undermining the Inspectors ruling so we are writing to Government Office to investigate" Cllr Steve Radford confirmed on behalf of The Liberal Party Group.

Whilst there has not been any formal planning application yet residents are being urged to prepare for battle. The plans envisage an access road running northbound into Townsend Lane. Liberal Party members are determined that this is challenged, "to have a major flow of HGV's into the point where the dual carriageway narrows into a single lane, plus the fact that the entrance will be visually hidden by the railway line itself, is a recipe for a major traffic accident on this busy route into Anfield, summed up Cllr Steve Radford.

Planning Committee Rejects Multi-Occupancy Applications in Anfield and Tuebrook...

At the Planning Committee on Tuesday 7th October, Liberal Party Councillor Steve Radford got support to have planning applications to turn 42 Windsor Road,Tuebrook, and 99 Rocky Lane, Anfield into bedsits for 7 and 9 single refugees rejected.

He was concerned that there was inadequate parking and put the point of view that allowing the continual conversions of family homes into bedsits had a profound detrimental impact on the area. Lastly Steve expressed concern that there was no evidence of serious on site support for refugees being moved in.

Lastly the planning committee also agreed to undertake a site visit to Sunny Oak, 25 Hughenden Road where local residents and Liberal Party Councillors are resisiting an application for a 5 flat conversion of a family home.

Alleygating Update for Tuebook and Anfield...

At the request of Cllr Steve Radford, the city council head of Community Safety has submitted a bid for extra alleygating /fencing. There are several locations such as Empress Rd, Suburban Rd, Doric Park and Herschell/Adams Street where residents are feeling the brunt of gangs displaced by alleygating in the surrounding areas. Initially officers gave a bland reply of "no money". However Cllr Steve Radford insisted they make a formal request to Cllr Flo Clucas, where the responsibility finally lies.

To put more pressure Liberal Party Councillors (Steve Radford, Chris Lenton and Hazel Williams) have tabled a further motion to both council and Area Committees to request fencing for these areas. "No doubt the fact we are fair and seeking funds for areas represented by negligent Lib Dem Councillors as well as our own residents I have confidence will be respected by the community representatives and strengthen our case". Whilst the bid has been submitted we hope residents realise their may not be an immediate response. We are also grateful for the support of Inspector Mark Harrison who visited the Suburban Road site with us and has backed the bid.

OPEN LETTER TO PRESS OVER JOINT LIVERPOOL and EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUBS

From Cllr Steve Radford, Cllr Chris Lenton, Cllr Hazel Williams Liberal Party Councillors for Tuebrook Ward

Dear Editor,

Throughout the phoney consultation in the Breckfield and Anfield area residents were repeatedly led into believing that the significant funds for regenerating Anfield were dependent upon LFC being given the go ahead for a stadium on Stanly Park.

Residents were never allowed a straight vote on sacrificing or saving Stanley Park. Throughout the phoney consultation the size and consequential expected additional traffic levels to be generated were withheld from the public view. So low and behold the people of Anfield and surrounding communities are faced with the prospect of a larger stadium catering for both clubs playing in effect each and every week. Public funds from the council will be used for the stadium catering for a a wider role than just football. But why should the site be a Stanley Park?. What about more appropriate locations for a super stadium nearer to key transport links?

The press now report that the Regeneration of Anfield is NOT dependent upon the joint stadium in Stanley Park. In that case, can the residents of Anfield and our surrounding communities have a public apology for being misled. Can those councillors and senior officers who peddled this myth, be expected to pay for the phoney consultation out of their own pockets rather than our council taxes!

Council officers have declared that a joint stadium on Stanley Park is council policy - strange that their has never been a council debate on this controversial issue. Of course democracy is dead in Liverpool Town Hall which is run by a holly huddle of a few senior officers and senior councillors who believe they are beyond accountability. Clearly excess majorities breed an excess arrogance in not just Labour Authorities. But of course "open and honest government" are only slogans for election time by this Lib Dem Council, just like their pledge to retain our open spaces. Dumped at the first hurdle.
