Anfield Youth Club Special meeting - Monday 23rd Feb

On Monday 23rd of Feb there was a special meeting to encourage greater community involvement in the Management of Anfield Youth Club (Clarendon Road), new officers were elected to all key posts. The committee are also still looking for additional members

Following this there was a debate over the option of Vernon Sangster relocating on a temp basis to AYC.

Cllr Steve Radford asked there be a clear presentation of plans to Committee members , this has now been convened for Monday 8th March  at 18.30.

Cllr Radford said he would be looking for a clear view that the club would not be left with increased overheads when Vernon Sangster eventually moves out and that he would expect the application to be combined with traffic safety measures for residents in Clarendon, Suburban, Waltham and Winchester Roads

Lastly it was agreed any plans should be put on display at the club before the planning application is considered by the council

Liberals Call for action in schools against Homophobia

At the National Advisory Group Meeting,London 21st Feb, for LGBT Community groups involved with police and community safety issues, Merseyside LGBT representatives were critical that not enough was being done to tackle homophobia in Merseyside schools

At a consequence the Liberal Party Group have tabled a request for both research be carried out and that the Education Director for Liverpool to analyse what is currently being delivered in Liverpool Schools , both secular and religious, to tackle homphobia

Similar research in Birmingham (the Pink Shield Project survey of 750 LBGT ) showed alarming responses:

45% of females and 52% of males suffered harassment in last 5 years

26% of males and 14% of females had suffered violent attacks

35% of men had been subject to bullying at school

"We fear that the extend of this problem as shown by the Birmingham research will be true of other conurbations such as Liverpool.

We are determined that people do not suffer such vile oppression because of their lifestyle, Merseyside Police have introduced sound policies for policing the LGBT communities, we now want to see the Education Authorities take stronger and more comprehensive steps to tackle homophobia  early on" Cllr Steve Radford

Lib Dems Vote to sacrifice Park and Open Spaces Policy

At the Planning Committee all the Lib Dem Cllrs voted to compromise their Open Spaces and Green Wedge policies by voting a part of the park alongside Balmoral Road and Gardeners Drive be built upon.

This was despite a fierce fight from Friends of Newsham Park, Fairfield Residents and formal protests from every sort of national body, including the Victorian Societyand English Heritage

However the campaign has not stopped here and protesters are writing to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to call in the decision and legal advise is being sort.

Even leading Lib Dem Cllrs , like Clklr Paul Clein admit this was not the best site

Sadly the so called opposition Labour Party couldn't even get one of their two Council places on the Palnning Committee filled, let alone make a contribution --bless them !
