The powers of our MPs are being reduced
| |
|
THE twisting and turning of the Lib Dem Leadership contenders on their position over a referendum on the EU constitution beggars belief.
Being interviewed in The Daily Telegraph, Chris Huhme is reported as saying about a Referendum for a UK settlement involving Scottish MP's no longer voting on english affairs: "We should convene a constitutional convention of not just the political class but civic society, and come up with proposals that could be put to a referendum. So I agree a referendum is the end process by which we approve new constitutional arrangements."
This shows the utter hypocrisy of the same Lib Dems failing to support a referendum on the new EU constitution, tarted up as a Treaty, which further reduces the powers and influence of all our MPs, English, Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish - a pledge Lib Dems and Labour made in their manifesto's at the last General Election which they now intend to betray.

Appeal sent to 6 Merseyside Christian Leaders
"I guess you will have seen some of the recent debate concerning the investment policy of the merseyside Superannuation scheme, this scheme is used by all the Merseyside Local authorities and many joint venture companies that were once part of the local authority activities
You may be aware that the funds administered by Wirral Borough Council has rejected appeals by three other participating authorities, claiming to protect the financial interests of the fund
The debate over ethics and financial return has been a debate many of our own churches resolved during the disinvestment campaign over South Africa. The majority of our Christian churches were able to gain equally beneficial investments outside of the arms industries, ensuring respect for the ethics and conscience of their congregations
I am writing to you asking if you as one of several prominent Merseyside Christian Leaders to endorse an appeal to the Merseyside Pension scheme to switch its investments from military based companies to ethically acceptable investments. k
Knowing that large numbers of your own congregation members pay into this scheme and would wish their christian conscience to be respected in the application of investments
Thanks
Yours in faith

Dear Editor
For Publication
We were delighted to read the following report in the Southport Visitor:
"THE drive to concentrate housing development in pathfinder areas like Bootle has failed, according to Southport MP John Pugh.
Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee, the Lib Dem MP revealed the scheme on Merseyside had led to a net loss of 412 houses, with waiting lists for housing going up by 126 per cent in the past five years.
Dr Pugh said: “The theory people who can’t get housed in Southport can find homes in the south of Sefton and Bootle is not only wrong, it’s not working. House prices in Bootle have shot up 118 per cent."
Mr John Pugh MP has got the clear picture of the dysfunctional impact of HMRI,destroying perfectly good houses,
reducing housing supply and aggravating house inflation . As a consequence waiting lists rise all at enormous tax payers expense
The worst offending council for the abuses of HMRI is strangely enough , Lib Dem ruined Liverpool.
The logic of Mr Pugh's comments is that he should urge Liverpool voters, at the next local elections, to abandon voting for either of the Lib Dem or Labour "demolition sisters" and vote for us in the anti Demolition Liberal Party.

Dear Editor,
Ref Disgrace of Boot Estate
Cllr Bradley and the Lib Dems appearing in the news to celebrate 200 homes being built on the Boot estate, Norris Green is adding insult to injury
When Barrett's took over the contaminated Breckside Park Depot the site was cleared and 300 or so homes built within a year or so
For the city council to celebrate that they have only built 200 homes in Norris Green after 7 years of decanting and leaving people in squalor and fear is an utter disgrace
An even more appropriate comparison is to look how CDS, Petra with support from their Liberal Party Councillors and Labour MP , Peter Kilfoyle, ensured the Pinehurst Estate was redeveloped in a period of three years for nearly 1000 households living in similar defective properties
Cllr Bradley should be humbly apologising to the people of Norris Green for the inept handling of the redevelopment by his colleagues not celebrating

WHY DO WE STILL TOLERATE EU BUDGET SCANDAL?
Printed Western Morning News Group
04 December 2007
European Union budget spending has been riddled with irregularities for the 13th year running, according to its top auditing watchdog.
The EU auditors have criticised inadequate controls over most EU expenditure for the 13th year running. When is this disgrace going to end?
Irregularities, particularly in the spending of economic aid to poorer regions, were highlighted. The European Court of Auditors said the errors ranged from missing documents declaring how money was spent to charging more than the actual cost of the project.
If this was local government every councillor would be surcharged and the local authority disbanded or taken over. So why do we tolerate this from the unaccountable EU superstate?
No wonder our feeble Labour and Lib-Dem MPs are terrified to give us a referendum on the new EU Treaty/Constitution.
The EU is no longer fit for purpose, the politicians who keep making excuses or covering up should be sacked at the next General and Euro elections. We in the UK should refuse to pay one single more pound to the EU until it can provide honest accounts.

Dear Editor,
Over the last month members of both the Liberal Party and the Democracy Movement have been lobbying Lib Dem Members attending their Leadership hustings at places as far and wide as Leeds, Cardiff, Cambridge,London Euston and last week even Chingford
In is quite obvious that many of the Lib Dem Membership did not know that their MP's were preparing to abandon a manifesto commitment for a referendum on the pending new EU constitution. Having being made aware of this U turn they clearly felt this was unethical
Large numbers of people who have voted Lib Dem in national and local elections normally abandon supporting them at the European Elections,as their policies are so out of step with public opinion
If the Lib Dem MP's fail to vote for a referendum on a further and substantial transfer of more powers and duties to the unelected and inadequately audited EU ,then will be laying the foundations for their own downfall at the next General Election
