Parks Vision Document Fails to Involve Community Ownership or Improve Security...

At the Fairfield and Stoneycroft Area Committee,(Monday 20th Oct) Liberal Party Councillors Steve Radford and Hazel Williams pulled apart the councils latest press gimmick policy document "Vision for Parks"

Cllr Steve Radford said it failed to give any meaningful approach to enabling communities to take ownership of their Parks, he ridiculed Lib Dem Members for breaking their pledge to create community based trusts with local people in control. He then went onto catalogue the systematic failure of officers to improve security in Larkhill Park until after they wasted thousands on improvements which were then vandalised overnight.

Cllr Hazel Williams said she and the Friends of Newsham Park were exasperated at the number of broken pledges to improve Newsham ark which came to naught., She said local people were fed up of all the monies going to sefton Park time and time again

Lastly Hazel and Steve formally moved the report be recorded as a disappointment and that proposals be brought back to prevent the consumption of alcohol in local parks, enable community ownership and improve security.

Although all the local Lib Dem councillors agreed with their critisism when it came to the vote the Lib Dems voted to note the report and do effectively nothing.
