Jeremy Vine Show issues apology to Cllr Steve Radford

On Wednesday a caller was reported to be Steve Radford of Liverpool who claimed to have travelled during the miners dispute to steal cars

Immediately dozens of local residents phoned Cllr Steve Radford to alert our team of this malicious claim

After a full investigation by the BBC, they admitted they had taken the call on face value and after being challenged could not get a reply from the person claiming to be Steve Radford

After the City Council Elections Office confirmed that the only registerested elector under the name Steve Radford, was Cllr Steve Radford, then the BBC issued an unequivocal apology today

" I am surprised at the failure of the BBC not to have made the simplest of verification checks to ascertain the real identity of a caller claiming to have carried out a series of illegal acts, that aside I am most grateful for the prompt retraction and apology by the BBC. "

"It never fails to amaze me having a honest and hard working  Liberal Party Councillors in Tuebrook  causes so much anxiety to some of the scum of the city that they have to resort to dirty tricks each and every year ( for the last 14 years),                                                                                  It so nice to have seen the scum fail again"   commented Cllr Steve Radford
