I was confused by the letter from socialist Cllr Mumby (23/08/06), blaming the Liberal Democrats for the city’s housing problems.

While he is correct to point out the number of vacant properties and family’s on the waiting list has risen under the Lib Dems, he failed to point out the biggest contributing factor of the problem - the Labour Party’s policy to demolish thousands of houses in Princess Park, Kensington and Anfield.

With Labour cllrs remaining quiet on the demolitions which are forcing thousands of people onto the housing waiting list, it is the real Liberal Party who have been campaigning alongside local people to stop this policy of waste and expense.

The Liberal Democrats may as has he puts it ‘live in one city, the rest of us another’, however the cities where the Labour Party’s housing policy is more commonly found are Moscow, St. Petersburg and Leningrad.
