Dear Editor
The support for extensive demolition of homes is justified in that people want better homes
This begs the question whether the new homes are any significantly better, after taking into account the horrendous costs involved in purchase, legal challenges, demolition and rebuilding
Can I quote some recent points made by an expert in Urban Environmental Design :-
"The average size of a new property in the UK today is 30% less than it was in 1920 and while the average size of a new property here is just 815 sq ft (76sq m)
- barely 15% larger than the basic flats built in Communist East Germany before 1990
- the average size of a new property in Australia and the United States is approximately 2,200 sq ft (over 200sq m), while in Europe it is around 90 sq m.
In fact we live in the smallest properties in Western Europe, but pay some of the highest prices for doing so."
If anyone has any doubt about the benefit of new housing being built I invite readers to view the new build properties in Norris Green , Liverpool, which have all the design hallmarks of a later day legoland
