Newsham Park Bid

On Thursday 17th July I chaired a special meeting of the Newsham Park Working Party.

I was advised by officers that the council needed to streamline a bid for £4.5 millions to the Heritage Lottery Fund by a deadline of september.

To do so it was vital we target those elements that needed priority and for that reason I convened a special meeting

On the 17th July the Group , including various residents and councillors ,agreed that bid should include :

Lighting for park entrances and the pathways to improve security

Refurbishment of the Fairfield Bandstand

Improved signage for the Park and information signage in the Park itself

Significant repairs to the Lakes themselves

Play and fitness equipment to attract more sports people into the park

A second play area on the Newsham Drive part of the park

Upgrading pathways

Lastly a programme of improving shrubbery and further tree planting,
finished off with a water feature and public art

There is no guarantee that this bid will succeed,
however please rest assured I am absolutely determined officers are given
clear directions and speedy decisions so our bid has the best chance possible of succeeding
