School Crossings Future Secure

Dear Friends

Many people, not just parents, have been extremely distressed at prospect that 24 school crossings would loose their lollipop patrols all day or even just lunchtimes

At the city council draft budget debate you will know where we in The Liberal Party urged savings been made from excessive layers of management and excessive pay-offs to people at senior levels

At this part of the budget both Cllr Hazel Williams and myself made an impassioned plea to save these three local crossing , I suggested that "it was right for the publicity budget to take a hit rather than our children take a hit".

At the conclusion of debate Cllr Warren Bradley took the lead from Cllr Clucas and said he would convene a meeting with the service heads and review this element of the budget the very next day

This afternoon I had a cordial telephone conversation with Cllr Bradley who confirmed robustly that these lollipop services would not be cut and he was to issue a public statement to the press tonight to that effect

I am sure we are all pleased commonsense has won the day

Cllr Steve Radford
