Liberal Democrat Steve Hurst fails to overturn conviction for breaking election law

Liverpool Lib Dem councillor Steve Hurst has failed in his appeal to overturn a conviction for breaking election law.
Today judge Mark Brown said: "This sort of conduct brings considerable discredit on his party and local politicians in general, at a time when politicians are under the spotlight as never before.
"This was dirty tactics of the worst kind."
Hurst was convicted of delivering a leaflet titled "Walton Scab," attacking sitting Labour councillor Pauline Walton and her firefighter husband Keith in December.
Masquerading as a leaflet from The United Socialist Party (TUSP), the pink flier accused Mr Walton of crossing a Fire Brigades Union picket line during a strike.
Mrs Walton was accused of leaving council meetings early to learn lap dancing.
And it said Mr Walton was so unpopular at Lee Park golf course he couldn't find a playing partner.
The Wavertree councillor also stood down from his position on Liverpool's ruling executive board.
The above report featured in the Daily Post, this illegal malpractice has been routine by the Lib Dems for may years, what is refreshing is that at long last Merseyside Police have acted to expose, rather than cover up for the Lib Dems.In Tuebrook and Clubmoor Wards lib dem election leaflets often carried dishonest references claimed to be made by me. To prevent civil legal action the legal imprint was not carried but police only issued a warning once
